ART &
ADVOCACY

friends of hanlan's

Co-founder

Since 2022, I've been a relentless advocate for the queer history and rare ecology at the site of Canada's 1971 first LGBTQ2+ Pride, which has also been Canada's oldest surviving queer space for nearly a century.

Through leadership and advocacy working with multiple levels of government and the top elected executives at the City of Toronto, I was able to have Hanlan's Point formally recognized as a historically queer space, the first time this has been accomplished anywhere in Canada.

Through my advocacy work, I continue to push for ecological protections to help undo decades of inadequate stewardship so this place can continue to be a safe space for the queer community for years to come.

Through 2023 and 2024 I worked to design and create the first portion of a monument to the first LGBTQ2+ Pride in Canada at Canada's oldest surviving queer space.

Nuit blanche exhibit

2023 Artist

For Nuit Blanche 2023 I worked with Pride Toronto to create an immersive exhibit mixing archival materials with video projection to show the history of the queer liberation movement in Canada, hosted in the Museum of Contemporary Art.

EGALE
The gallery of memories

Artist & Advocate

Working with Egale, Canada's largest charitable organization for LGBTQ2+ people and ideas, I created an immersive gallery highlighting the queer community's fragile relationship with memory and history through the lens of new data that showing that the community is at a heightened risk of dementia from Chronic Minority Stress.

The gallery featured interviews with elder members of the queer community about the memories they want to hold on to and what they fear for the future, presented with images from their youth in the early days of the queer liberation movement.

VIZZY
The vizzybility booth

Artist & Advocate

Working with Molson-Coors, I worked to undo the erasure of queer history by bringing back the queer history of photo booths, the original queer safe spaces in times when queer love had to be hidden.

In the installation the photo booth was completely transparent, symbolizing that nobody should ever have to hide again, and launched at North America's largest LGBTQ2+ Pride gathering.
